On December 4th, 2023, to commemorate World HIV/AIDS Day, the Institute of Social Sciences and Humanities at Srinivas University organized an HIV/AIDS Awareness program for NSS volunteers and Students’ Social Workers

 

On December 4th, 2023, to commemorate World HIV/AIDS Day, the Institute of Social Sciences and Humanities at Srinivas University organized an HIV/AIDS Awareness program for NSS volunteers and Students’ Social Workers. Dr. Laveena Dmello, a Professor at the Institute, emphasized the significance of this awareness initiative in her address to the students. Additionally, Dr. Jobinse Jose, BSc MBBS MD, a Senior Resident from the Department of Community Medicine at Kasturba Medical College, served as the resource person. Dr. Jose conducted a session aimed at educating the youth about HIV/AIDS, highlighting the roles of social workers and NSS volunteers in combating the spread of the disease. Community medicine staff and Faculties from the Institute of Social Sciences and Humanities were present.












On December 1st, 2023, in observance of World HIV/AIDS Day, Mangalore University's NSS Volunteers orchestrated a Blood Donation and HIV/AIDS Awareness event. Dr. Laveena Dmello, Professor at the Institute of Social Sciences and Humanities, Srinivas University and NSS Coordinator, served as the resource person, delivering a session to educate the youth about HIV/AIDS. Her discourse focused on fostering awareness and elucidating the pivotal role of the youth in preventing the spread of the disease.

visited Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF Kulashekara) on 5/12/2023.


 Institute of Social Sciences and Humanities visited   Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF Kulashekara) on 5/12/2023. MSW.BSW.BAJMC students were part of the visit. KMF official Ms. Reshma briefed about the functioning of the dairy. The visit the gave understanding to the students about Milk Federation. Dr Laveena Dmello, Dr Vidya.N , Prof Joyson accompanied the students.

Orientation program(28/11/2023) for the MSW & BSW students to Spandana trust and Maria Nilaya Prashanth Nivas

 Institute of Social Sciences and Humanities organised a one day orientation program(28/11/2023) for the MSW & BSW students to Spandana trust and Maria Nilaya Prashanth Nivas. Students exhibited their talent through cultural program distributed etables. Students interacted with the inmates who were destitutes, physically and mentally challenged.

Then visited Spandana Trust the Director Mr Vincent Vas oriented about program of the organisation. Visit gave an insight to the students about field practicum. Dr Laveena Dmello, Dr Vidya.N and Prof. Joyson accompanied the students.


























Workshop on “Understanding the Scope and Challenges of MSW Course in Hospital Setting”

 Mangalore: Srinivas University Institute of Social Sciences and Humanities organised a Workshop on “Understanding the Scope and Challenges of MSW Course in Hospital Setting” Wednesday 29, November 2023 at Srinivas University City Campus Pandeshwara. Mr. Joyal, Welfare Coordinator & Counselor, Dr. Thungas Manaswini Hospital, and Mr. Bhavish, Counselor, Dr. Thungas Manaswini Hospital, were the Resource Person.  Session consisted the Scope and Challenges in the Medical and Psychiatry field and HR field. Dr. Laveena Dmello, Professor and Head of ISSH, Prof. Joyson Prenky Cardoza, Programme Convenor, Institute of Social Sciences and Humanities, were  present. Student Vikhyath welcomed the gathering, Vivek proposed the vote of thanks, and Fathimathul Afra compered the event. I MSW students were present.

Srinivas University, United Way Mumbai collaborate for beach cleaning drive

 Mangaluru, Sep 16: Srinivas University's National Service Scheme (NSS), in collaboration with NGO United Way Mumbai, undertook a commendable three-day ‘Ullal Beach Cleaning Programme’ at Ullal Beach, spanning from September 13-15. This collaborative initiative was spearheaded by Andrew Dais, project lead at United Way Mumbai, Sandeep Shetty, field officer at United Way Mumbai, and Dr Laveena D'Mello, NSS coordinator of Srinivas University.

Over the course of three days, students from various disciplines at Srinivas University, including MBA, MSW, BAJMC, BSW, BBA, and BCOM, enthusiastically participated in this meaningful endeavour.

The event was also graced by the presence of esteemed faculty members, including associate professor Dr Vidya N from the Institute of Social Sciences and Humanities, Prof Shilpa K., HOD of BBA, Prof Sharmila Shetty, HOD of BCom, Prof Joyson Prenky Cardoza, Prof Shwetha N S, Prof. Sushmitha, Prof Paresh Salian, Prof Prajna and Shivaraj who actively joined hands with the students in their efforts.

In total, a remarkable 300 students devoted their time and energy to the beach cleaning programme, making a substantial impact on the cleanliness and environmental preservation of Ullal Beach. The joint initiative between Srinivas University and United Way Mumbai demonstrated the power of community collaboration and the commitment of young minds to environmental sustainability.

Dr Laveena D'Mello, NSS coordinator of Srinivas University, emphasised the importance of such initiatives in fostering a sense of responsibility towards the environment among students. As part of their pre-preparation On September 9, Srinivas University organized a plastic waste management awareness program, during which Andrew Dais, project lead at United Way Mumbai,. Sandeep Shetty, field officer at United Way Mumbai, and Prof Venkatesh Amin, dean of the Institute of Management and Commerce, spoke about environmental issues.

The three-day Ullal Beach Cleaning Programme stands as a shining example of how educational institutions and non-governmental organizations can come together to create a positive impact on the community and the environment. This collaborative effort will undoubtedly inspire future generations to take up similar initiatives for a cleaner, greener tomorrow.
