1ST-OCT-2026-PARIVAR OLD AGE HOME VISIT
Srinivas Hospital, Mukka, Mangaluru, in collaboration with the Department of Social Sciences and Humanities (MSW), Institute of Management and Commerce, Srinivas University, organized a Geriatric Day Celebration on 1st October 2026 at Parivar Old Age Home, Surathkal, Mangaluru, under the theme “Celebrating Age, Sharing Joy.” The program commenced at 10.00 a.m. and concluded at 1.00 p.m.The programme began with a prayer song, followed by a welcome address by the MSW students. The event aimed to promote the health, well-being, dignity, and happiness of senior citizens through health awareness, medical screening, recreational activities, and cultural interactions.As part of the programme, Dr. Daryl from the Department of General Medicine, Srinivas Hospital, delivered awareness talks to the inmates on healthy ageing, healthcare, and the importance of maintaining good health. Dr. Shlok from the Department of ENT and Dr. Daryl from Srinivas Hospital also conducted health screenings for the inmates and provided general health check-ups.The MSW students organised an engaging cultural programme, presenting various performances that brought joy and entertainment to the senior citizens. Spot games and recreational activities were also conducted, encouraging the inmates to participate enthusiastically. The interaction between the students and the senior citizens created a warm and joyful atmosphere, with both groups actively participating and enjoying the activities.As a gesture of love and care, the students distributed sweets and fruits to the inmates. The students also contributed essential items to the old age home as a token of their love and support. These contributions reflected the spirit of compassion, social responsibility, and community service among the students.The programme was coordinated by Prof. Joyson Cardoza, Head of the Department, Dr. Laveena Dmello, Dr. Stutima Basistha, and Prof. Ranjith Bhat, faculty members of the Department of Social Sciences and Humanities (MSW). Ms. Kavyashree, a staff member, was also present and actively supported the programme.The Geriatric Day Celebration was a meaningful and enriching experience for both the senior citizens and the MSW students. 26th-September-2026-HARD OF HEARING AWARNESS AND STREET PLAY
A Hard of Hearing Awareness and Street Play Programme was conducted on 26 September 2026 by the Department of Master of Social Work (MSW), Srinivas University, Mukka, in collaboration with Srinivas Hospital and the NSS Unit. The programme aimed to create awareness about hearing impairment, its causes, prevention, treatment, and the rights and inclusion of persons who are hard of hearing. The programme also emphasized the importance of building a supportive and hearing-inclusive society.
Inaugural Session
The programme commenced with a welcome address by
Dr. Sunil Pai, ENT Department, Srinivas Hospital, who welcomed the gathering
and highlighted the significance of creating awareness about hearing-related
problems.The Dean of Srinivas Medical College delivered the keynote address and
emphasized the importance of early identification, appropriate medical care,
and community support for individuals experiencing hearing impairment. Medical
professionals from Srinivas Hospital addressed the students and provided
valuable information about the causes of hearing impairment, preventive
measures, symptoms, available treatment options, and the importance of timely
medical consultation. The session helped the students understand hearing
impairment from a healthcare and community perspective.
Awareness Procession
Following the inaugural session, an awareness
procession was organised from the entrance of Srinivas Institute of Dental
Sciences to Srinivas Medical College and Srinivas Hospital, Mukka, along the
highway. The participants walked in two rows, carrying the message of hearing
awareness and inclusion. More than 150 students participated in the programme.
Students from the Department of MSW, Nursing, Medical College, and Health and
Allied Sciences actively joined the procession. The participation of students
from different disciplines reflected the importance of a multidisciplinary
approach to promoting community health and social inclusion.
Street Play
After reaching the hospital premises, the MSW
students presented a 15-minute street play focusing on the challenges faced by
persons with hearing impairment. The play highlighted the rights of
hard-of-hearing persons, the importance of understanding and respecting their
needs, early identification of hearing problems, available remedies and
treatment, and the need for an inclusive and empathetic society.The street play
used creative expression and practical situations to communicate the message
effectively to the public. Students, outpatients, hospital staff, and other
members present on the hospital premises witnessed the performance. The
presentation generated interest and awareness among the audience and conveyed
the message that persons with hearing impairment should be treated with
dignity, respect, and equal opportunities.

22nd-Septembwe-2026-WORLD ALZHEIMER’S DAY
The MSW students of Srinivas University, along with faculty members Dr. Laveena D’Mello and Prof. Ranjith Bhat, participated in the World Alzheimer’s Day 2026 programme organised by PAGE on 22 September 2026 at Town Hall, Mangaluru. A total of 21 MSW students and two faculty members attended the programme.The programme focused on creating awareness about Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, geriatric care, and the importance of dignity and well-being of senior citizens. Senior citizens from various NGOs actively participated and showcased their talents through songs, dances, and skits.The programme provided MSW students with valuable exposure to geriatric social work, dementia awareness, active ageing, social inclusion, and community-based support for older persons. It also encouraged interaction and cultural exchange among students and senior citizens.Overall, the programme was informative, engaging, and meaningful, highlighting the importance of building a supportive and dementi-friendly society that respects and promotes the dignity and quality of life of older persons.

7th SEPTEMBER-FISH IN THE POND-CLASSROOM ACTIVITY
The Department of Social Sciences and Humanities (MSW), Institute of Management and Commerce, Srinivas University, Mangalore, organized a classroom activity titled “Fish in the Pond” on 07 September 2026. The activity was conducted to encourage interaction, communication, participation, and bonding among students in an enjoyable classroom environment. The program was conducted by Dr. Stutima Basistha during the class hours. In the “Fish in the Pond” activity, students anonymously wrote questions addressed to their fellow classmates. The questions could be fun, interesting, thoughtful, or related to their experiences and opinions. The written questions were collected, and the students to whom the questions were addressed were asked to respond in front of the class. The activity created a lively and friendly atmosphere and encouraged students to express themselves openly. It helped improve communication, confidence, interpersonal interaction, and understanding among classmates. The anonymous format also added an element of curiosity and fun, making students more enthusiastic about participating. The program was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Venkatesh S. Amin, Dean, and Prof. Joyson Prenky Cardoza, Head of the Department (HOD), with the active support and participation of Dr. Laveena D'Mello, Dr. Stutima Basistha, and Prof. Ranjith Bhat. Students enthusiastically participated in various indoor activities. The MSW Department, Institute of Management and Commerce, Department of Social Sciences and Humanities, Srinivas University, organised a National Sports Day celebration with the objective of promoting physical fitness, teamwork, sportsmanship, and a healthy lifestyle among students. The program was conducted under the guidence of Dean. Dr.Venkatesh.S.Amin, Prof.Joyson Prenky Cardoza, HOD, MSW Department, Dr.Stutima basista and Prof. Ranjith bhat, Asiistant professor. The programme was conducted under the theme “Play Together, Stay Fit, Inspire Nation”, encouraging students to actively participate in various sports and recreational activities.The event was organised in two phases. The Outdoor Activities were conducted on 3rd September 2026 (Thursday) from 9:30 AM onwards at the Dental College Ground. Students enthusiastically participated in various games and sporting activities, including Tug of War, Volleyball, and Throwball, The outdoor events created an atmosphere of enthusiasm, healthy competition, cooperation, and team spirit among the participants. Students actively demonstrated their physical abilities, coordination, leadership qualities, and sportsmanship throughout the programme. The National Sports Day celebration was organised with the intention of creating awareness about the importance of regular physical activity and encouraging students to adopt a healthy and active lifestyle. The programme also emphasised the values of teamwork, discipline, determination, leadership, cooperation, and healthy competition. The enthusiastic participation of the students contributed significantly to the success of both the outdoor and indoor activities. 28-08-2026-MOVIE SCREENING PROGRAM
The Department of Social Sciences and Humanities (MSW), Institute of Management and Commerce, Srinivas University, Mangalore, organised a Movie Screening on 28 August 2026 as a co-curricular activity. The programme aimed to provide students and faculty members with a refreshing break from regular classroom activities while promoting interaction, bonding, and learning through an engaging medium.The programme was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Venkatesh S. Amin, Dean, and Prof. Joyson Prenky Cardoza, Head of the Department, with the active support and participation of Dr. Stutima Basista, Dr. Laveena D’Mello, and Prof. Ranjith Bhat.The movie English Vinglish was screened, highlighting themes of self-confidence, self-respect, personal growth, family relationships, gender roles, and empowerment through learning. The screening provided students with an opportunity to reflect on social and personal issues beyond textbook learning.Movie screenings as co-curricular activities encourage critical thinking, empathy, social awareness, student–faculty interaction, and peer bonding. As part of the academic and co-curricular activities, a class debate was conducted for the final-year Master of Social Work (MSW) students on the topic “Educational Life vs Professional Life.” The activity was organized under thre guidence of Dean Dr.Venkatesh S Amin, Prof, Joyson Prenky Cardoza, OD,MSW and Prof. Ranjith bhat.C.Assistant professor.The objective of providing students with an opportunity to develop their communication skills, critical thinking abilities, confidence, teamwork and capacity to express opinions effectively. The debate focused on the differences between educational life and professional life, highlighting the experiences, responsibilities, challenges and opportunities associated with both stages. The students actively participated in the discussion by presenting arguments and counterarguments based on their academic experiences and expectations regarding their future careers. The participants discussed how educational life provides students with theoretical knowledge, academic discipline, opportunities for learning and personal development, whereas professional life demands the practical application of knowledge, responsibility, decision-making, adaptability, time management and interpersonal skills. The students also emphasized that education provides a strong foundation for professional success, while professional experience further enhances practical knowledge and competence. During the activity, students expressed their views on subjects such as work pressure, career expectations, financial independence, professional ethics, work-life balance, competition and the importance of continuous learning. The debate encouraged students to critically compare the freedom and learning-oriented environment of student life with the responsibilities and accountability associated with professional life. The activity also helped students understand that both educational and professional life are interconnected and that the skills developed during academic life play an important role in preparing individuals for their professional careers. The Department of Master of Social Work (MSW), Institute of Management and Commerce, Srinivas University, successfully organised an industrial visit to Kalyani Bottling, Kenchankere, Mulki, for MSW students as part of their academic and practical learning. The visit was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Venkatesh S. Amin, Dean; Prof. Joyson Prenky Cardoza, HOD-MSW; Dr. Stutima Basista; and Prof. Ranjith Bhat C, Assistant Professor. The main objective of the visit was to provide students with practical exposure to industrial operations, production processes, organisational structure, employee welfare, workplace safety, and human resource practices. Students observed the bottling process and gained an understanding of the coordination and communication required among different departments for efficient organisational functioning.The visit also helped students understand the practical relevance of Industrial Social Work, Labour Welfare, Human Resource Management, and Organisational Behaviour. It enabled them to connect classroom knowledge with real-world workplace practices and understand the importance of employee motivation, welfare, safety, and positive employer–employee relationships.Overall, the industrial visit was an informative and enriching experience that enhanced the students' practical knowledge and contributed to their academic and professional development.
22nd -AUGUST-2026-POT LUCK PARTY
The Department of Social Sciences and Humanities (MSW), Institute of Management and Commerce, Srinivas University, Mangalore, organized a potluck party on 22 August 2026 as part of a co-curricular activity to provide students and faculty members with a refreshing break from the regular classroom routine and to promote interaction, bonding, and togetherness. The program was conducted under the guidance of Dean,Dr. Venkatesh S. Amin, Dean, and Prof. Joyson Prenky Cardoza, Head of the Department (HOD), with the active support and participation of Dr. Stutima Basista, Dr. Laveena D’Mello, and Prof. Ranjith Bhat. Students and faculty members enthusiastically participated by bringing a variety of homemade and favorite food items. The spread included samosa, dal tadka, cake, sweets, chana sukka, payasa, ash gourd cake, fried rice, roti, curd, and many more delicious dishes. The activity created a joyful and informal atmosphere where students and faculty members could interact beyond the classroom. It encouraged sharing, cooperation, participation, and a sense of belonging, while providing everyone with an enjoyable break from academic activities. Overall, the Potluck Party was a fun-filled and memorable co-curricular activity that strengthened the bond between students and faculty members and added a refreshing touch to campus life.
