Mangaluru, Sep 16: Srinivas University's National Service Scheme (NSS), in collaboration with NGO United Way Mumbai, undertook a commendable three-day ‘Ullal Beach Cleaning Programme’ at Ullal Beach, spanning from September 13-15. This collaborative initiative was spearheaded by Andrew Dais, project lead at United Way Mumbai, Sandeep Shetty, field officer at United Way Mumbai, and Dr Laveena D'Mello, NSS coordinator of Srinivas University.
Over the course of three days, students from various disciplines at Srinivas University, including MBA, MSW, BAJMC, BSW, BBA, and BCOM, enthusiastically participated in this meaningful endeavour.
The event was also graced by the presence of esteemed faculty members, including associate professor Dr Vidya N from the Institute of Social Sciences and Humanities, Prof Shilpa K., HOD of BBA, Prof Sharmila Shetty, HOD of BCom, Prof Joyson Prenky Cardoza, Prof Shwetha N S, Prof. Sushmitha, Prof Paresh Salian, Prof Prajna and Shivaraj who actively joined hands with the students in their efforts.
In total, a remarkable 300 students devoted their time and energy to the beach cleaning programme, making a substantial impact on the cleanliness and environmental preservation of Ullal Beach. The joint initiative between Srinivas University and United Way Mumbai demonstrated the power of community collaboration and the commitment of young minds to environmental sustainability.
Dr Laveena D'Mello, NSS coordinator of Srinivas University, emphasised the importance of such initiatives in fostering a sense of responsibility towards the environment among students. As part of their pre-preparation On September 9, Srinivas University organized a plastic waste management awareness program, during which Andrew Dais, project lead at United Way Mumbai,. Sandeep Shetty, field officer at United Way Mumbai, and Prof Venkatesh Amin, dean of the Institute of Management and Commerce, spoke about environmental issues.
The three-day Ullal Beach Cleaning Programme stands as a shining example of how educational institutions and non-governmental organizations can come together to create a positive impact on the community and the environment. This collaborative effort will undoubtedly inspire future generations to take up similar initiatives for a cleaner, greener tomorrow.
