DEPARTMENT ACTIVITIES-FROM FEBRUARY 2018 - JANUARY 2019
1. Enrolment: M.S.W. registered an admission of 09 students in the academic year 2018-19.
2. Orientation: Orientation programme for First year MSW was conducted. Students were taken for orientation visit to Srinivas Hospital. Mukka, along with two faculty members Dr. Laveena D’Mello and Prof. Pradeep M.D. The Alumnae’s who are placed at Srinivas Institute of Medical Science and Research Centre (SIMS&RC), organized orientation and introduced the students the various departments and wards in the hospital, followed by Community visit.
3. HR Galaxy 6.0 PG Level Fest at College of Social Sciences & Humanities, Social Work Department: HR Galaxy 6.0, an HR Fest for the PG Students on 21st February, 2018. Around 22 Colleges participated in the event comprising 320 students from HR Specialization of M.S.W, M.H.R.D, M.B.A, M.Com, MHRD, PGDBA courses. The Programme comprised competition on Collage Making, Poster Making, Best out of Waste, Social Melodies, Mime Show, Student and Faculty Presentations. Mr. Murgesh S., Manager (HR & Admin), KIOCL Limited, Panambur, Mangalore was the Chief Guest. The programme was presided by Sri. CA.A. Raghavendra Rao, Chancellor, Srinivas University & President A Shama Rao Foundation, Mangalore, Dr. P.S. Aithal, Vice-Chancellor, Srinivas University, Mr. Pradeep M.D., Faculty Convenor, HR Galaxy Programme, Dr. Suresh Kumar, Dean of the Department, Mr. Sandeep Hegde, Student Convenor of the Programme. Poorna Prajna College Udupi, won the Overall Championship and University College, Hampankatta won the Runner Up.
4. Women’s Day Celebration by Social Work Students at Rotary Club, Tharigudde, Magaluru: On 12th March, 2018 at Rotary Club, Tharigudde. The Programme was inaugurated by Mrs. Surekha, Member, Neermarga Panchayat. Mrs. Mamatha, Anganwadi Teacher, Vamajoor was the guest for the Programme. The Programme is presided over by Mrs. Sudha, Teacher, Tharigudde. Mrs. Laveena D’Mello, Assistant Professor, Srinivas University was the resource Person to deliver a guest lecture on “How to Lead Family”. Various games like Passing the Tumbler with Straw, Paper Tail, Pick the lucky, Statue, Bangle were conducted to the participants. 30 Self Help Group members from Tharigudde participated in the programme. The Programme was organized by Ms. Krithika S Shetty, Ms. Rachitha, Mr. Pratheen Kumar, Mr. Yogish D and Mr. Ranjan students of Master of Social Work, Srinivas University.
5. VIVEKODAYA- 2018 : Organized a program under the banner of Vivekananda Study Center an awareness programme for the B.Ed and Social Work Students on 28th March, 2018 at the City Campus situated at Pandeshwar. The Programme was inaugurated by His Holiness, Sri. Swami Jitakamanandaji Maharaj, President, Sri Ramakrishna Ashram, Mangaluru. The programme was presided over by Dr. P.S. Aithal, Vice Chancellor, Srinivas University. Sri. Capt. Ganesh Karnik, MLC, Mangaluru was the Chief Guest for the programme & Mr. Vinod Dasar, President, Swami Vivekananda Integrated Rural Development Society, Yaragatti was the Guest. Sri. Prakash Malpe, Social Activist, delivered lecture on the topic ‘Role of Youths in building New India’. Dr. Suresh Kumar, Dean, College of Social Sciences & Humanities, Dr. Jayashree Bolar, Dean, College of Education and Staff of B. Ed and Social Work Departments were present in the occasion. Around 130 Students from Education and Social Work departments participated in the programme.
6. Life Skills Training Programme at Government First Grade College, Bettampady, Puttur: Life Skills Training Programme organized for the Degree students of Government First Grade College, Bettampady, Puttur, D.K. on 02nd April, 2018. Mrs. Laveena D’ Mello Assistant Professor, Social Work Department & Mr. Pradeep M.D. Assistant Professor, Social Work Department were the resource Persons. Mr. Yogish & Mr. Ranjan Students of II Year M.S.W. assisted to conduct the events. The Principal and Staff of the College highly appreciated the initiative and 40 Students from B.A & B.S.W. courses actively participated in the group activities conducted in the session.
7. Guest Lecture on “Work Culture and Communication” at Social Work Department: A Guest lecture on “Work Culture and Communication” was organised on 15th March, 2018. Dr. Raghavendra Holla, Manager (Admin), SEZ, Mangaluru was the Resource Person. He spoke on the topic highlighting the importance of communication, team work, leadership, decision making and hard work at workplace and guided the students to develop softskills needed for corporate world. Mrs. Laveena D’Mello, Assiatant Professor & Mr. Pradeep M.D. Assistant Professor of the Social Work Department were present. 34 Students of First and Second year M.S.W. attended the programme.
8. Fresher’s Day Celebration: Fresher’s day and Teachers day Celebration was organized by the Department of Social Work Department on 6th September, 2018. Second Year Students gave official welcome to the first year student and faculties. As per the Indian culture the programme was began by seeking blessings from the god in the form of prayer by Mrs. Saumya, Student of Second year. Floral welcome was given to the faculties. Teacher’s day was celebrated by cutting the cake. Professor Pradeep M.D., encouraged and congratulated the first year students for choosing master of social work for their post graduation education. Dr. Laveena D’Mello, Dean of the department guided the students about the importance of field oriented study. Cultural programme was performed by the second year students. The following games were organized for the teachers and fresher.

The winners of the games are provided with prizes and all the faculties and first year students were presented with mementoes.
9. Conference on Innovations in Higher Education: One day National Conference was organized by the department on the theme “Innovations in Higher Education” held on 25th August, 2018.
10. Guest Lecture and Role Play on Suicide Prevention: With the collaboration of Srinivas Hospital and Research Centre, Mukka, Surathkal, conducted an awareness programme on ‘Suicide Prevention’ on 12th September, 2018 in celebration of Suicide Prevention Week, September 9th to 15th, 2018. A Guest Lecture was conducted on the topic ‘Suicide in the Indian scenario and its affects’ was taken by Dr. Radhe, Professor, Community Medicine, Srinivas Hosptial & Research Centre, Mukka and Dr. Mithun S, Psychiatrist, Srinivas Hosptial and Research Center Speak on the topic ‘Prevention of Suicide’. The Interns of Srinivas Hospital have performed a Role play on the theme ‘Suicide Prevention’. The Programme was coordinated by Mr. Pratheen Kumar, Social Worker, Srinivas Hospital Mukka. The programme was presided by Dr. Laveena D Mello, Dean , Social Work Department and Mrs. Shailashre V.T. Dean of Management and Commerce. The faculties of Social work and Management were also present in the programme and all the students of M.S.W. and M.B. A course participated in the programme.
11. Guest Lecture on Grooming, Preparing Resume and Facing Interview: The association with Department of Management and Commerce, Srinivas University organized guest lecture on the topic ‘Grooming, Preparing Resume and Facing Interview’ on 22nd September, 2018. Dr. Raghavendra Holla, Manager (Admin), SEZ, Mangaluru was the resource person. The students interacted with the resource person by presenting their ideas on the issue. Mrs. Shailashree V.T, Dean of the management and commerce department and Mr. Pradeep M.D. Faculty of social work department were present in the event.
12. Swami Vivekananda Ratha Yathra: Ramakrishna Math, Mangaladevi, Mangalore organized Vivekananda Rath Yathra in celebration of 125th Year for the Speech of Swami Vivekananda at The World Parliament of Religion. Students of First year Master of Social Work participated as the Volunteers for the programme for the rally organized from University College, Hampankatta to Ramakirishna Math held on 25th September, 2018 at 3.P.M.
13. Participation in the Workshop: Ms. Divya, Ms. Chaithra and Ms. Sabiha Banu students of Second Year, Master of Social Work has participated in the Workshop on ‘Psycho-Social Care in Demensia’ on 25th September, 2018 held at KMC Attavara and secured Certificates of Participation.
14. Social Work Students visits Mother Theresa Home for the Aged: The Social Work Department has organized one day visit for the Social Work students to Mother Theresa Home for the disabled situated at Falnir, Mangaluru on 06th October, 2018 at 9.30 a.m. Mother Theresa Institute for the disabled is known for its care and service to the people belonging to old age, orphans, mentally challenged, physically handicapped and bed ridden. 10 Sisters are serving the inmates with all the possible ways. The interaction programme was started with a prayer song by Ms. Chaithra, Ms. Divya Sheree and Ms. Sabiha of Second year. Spot games were also conducted for the inmates and prizes were distributed to the participants. Cultural performances were done by the inmates and the social work students. Dr. Lavina D’Mello, Dean of Social Work Department Coordinated the programme.
15. Mental Health Day Celebration at City Campus, Srinivas University: Srinivas Institute of Management Studies, Mangalore in collaboration with Dakshina Kannada District Administration, Zilla Panchayat, District Legal Service Authority, Health & Family Welfare Department (Mental Health Division), District Police Department, Government District Wenlock Hospital, Department of Information & Communication has celebrated ‘World Mental Health Day-2018’ on 10th October, 2018 at City Campus, Srinivas University, Pandeshwar with the theme ‘Youth and Mental Health in the Changing World. The Programme was inaugurated by Sri. Kudloor Sathyanaryanacharya, Honorbale District Judge, D.K. District. The programme was presided over by Sri. Sashikanth Senthil, IAS, District Collector, D.K., Sri. T. R. Suresh, IPS, Police Commissioner, Mangalore City, Dr. B. R. Ravikanthe Gowda, IPS, Superintendent of Police, D.K. District, Dr. Selvamani R., IAS, Chief Executive Officer, Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat, Mangaluru, Dr. M. Ramakrishna Rao, District Health and Family Welfare Officer, D.K. District, Dr. Damayanti Krishna Mohan, Joint Director, District Wenlock & Government Lady Goshan Hospital, Managaluru, Dr. Rajeshwari Devi, District Surgeon and Superintendent, Government Wenlock Hospital, Mangaluru, Dr. P.S. Aithal, Vice Chancellor, Srinivas University, Mangaluru and Smt. Rohini K, Senior Assistant Director, Department of Information and Communication, D.K. District. Dr. Srinivas Bhat, Psychiatrist, K.S. Hegde Hospital, Mangaluru delivered a lecture on the ‘Role of Youth in protecting Mental Helath’. The students of Master of Social Work along with the students of M.B.A & M.C.A Programmes participated in the guest lecture.
16. Visit to Holavinahalli: On October 21st, 2018, MSW students with the collaboration of OCDS members visited Holavinahally at Kinya. Total 110 inmates both men and women above 18 years were present in the centre. This center is run by the nuns and both for old age home and institute for the destitute. The inmates exist with various problems like Psychological, physical and Mental retardation. The centre also has hospital to treat the patients. 40 members visited them and conducted games and winners were given prizes in a innovative way. In the afternoon cultural programme is given both by the students, members and the inmates.
17. Guest Lecture on Problems of Single Women: Department of Social Work organized guest lecture on the topic “Problems of Single Women” for the students of Social Work on 26th October, 2018. Mrs. Harini Secretary, NGO Cooperative Society was the Resource person who gave the lecture by focusing on the live cases of single women conducted in Mangaluru District. All the students of the Social Work Department participated in the Programme.
18. Conference: One Day National Conference at Srinivas University, City Campus: National Conference on the Theme of Education and Employment: Challenges for Social Sciences, IT and Management was organized by the department of Social Work, Srinivas University on 17th November, 2018 at City Campus, Pandeshwar, Mangaluru. The Conference was inaugurated by Dr. Jayashree K, Principal, Srinivas Collge of Education, Mangalore, Sri. Monoj Nagaraja, Consultant, Higher Education in UK was the Guest of Honour, Dr. P.S. Aithal, Vice Chancellor, Srinivas University presided over the Programme. Dr. Laveena D’Mello, Dean of College of Social Sciences & Humanities was the convenor of the Programme. The Students, Research Scholars and Faculties presented their paper in the conference.
19. Legal Awareness Programme at Bolar: Social Work Department, Srinivas University in association with Police Department and Coastal Security Force organized Legal Awareness Programme at Bolar Community in Mangaluru on 16th December, 2018. The resource person for the programme Miss Manjula, PSI, South Police Station Mangaluru gave information about different types of crimes happening in the city, causes and prevention methods. Mr. Tharanath (ASI), Coastal Security Force has given information about coastal offences and the role of fisher folks to preventing such offences. Mr. R.O. Biradar, Boat Captain, Coastal Security Force, gave information about building interface with fishing community and coastal security force. Mr. Chandrashekar, President of Rotary Club, Mangalore instructed parents to monitor their ward closely to save them from drugs related problems. The programme was presided by Mr. Gangesh Bolar, Social Activist, Bolar & Mr. Pradeep M.D. Faculty, Social Work Department was the convenor of the programme. The Master of Ceremony was performed by Miss. Swarnakeerthy Shenoy, Welcome was done by Mr. Sunil Kumar, Vote of Thanks was performed by Ms. Swathi the students of Social Work course. People of Bolar community participated in the programme.
20. Swacha Mangalore Cleanliness drive: On account of Republic day Students and staff involved in the programme “Swacha Mangalore Cleanliness drive”, with the collaboration of ward members from Jayashreegate, Kulshekar. 25 members participated in the program from 7.30 am to 9.30 am.
