On the 9th of June, 2025, the Department of Social Science and Humanities (MSW), under the Institute of Management and Commerce at Srinivas University, Pandeshwar Campus, Mangalore, organized an Alumni Guest Talk titled “Global Pathways in Social Work: A Guide to Careers, Migration, and Professional Growth”.
The distinguished speaker for the session was Mr. Jackson Chako, a medical social worker at the Department of Pediatric Oncology, MHR Cancer Centre and Research Institute, Calicut, Kerala. Mr. Chako is also a CORU-registered social worker, bringing valuable international expertise and insight to the session.
The event was specially arranged for the 1st and 2nd year MSW students and was held in the Gallery Hall. The guest talk was organized under the able guidance of Dr. Venkatesh S. Amin, Dean of IMC, and Prof. Joyson P. Cardoza, Head of the Department. The event was further graced by the presence of faculty members, including Dr. Laveen D'Mello, Dr. Stutima Basistha, and Prof. Ranjith Bhat.
The talk focused primarily on guiding the students through the various procedures and requirements for migrating to European countries after the completion of their course. Mr. Chako shared his personal journey and practical advice on pursuing social work careers abroad, covering important aspects such as professional registration, skill-building, and adaptation to international work environments.
The session proved to be highly informative and inspiring for the students, providing them with a clearer understanding of global opportunities and motivating them to broaden their professional horizons.
